OUR GOAL IS TO GALVANIZE OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY TO FIGHT RACISM AND DISCRIMINATION, TO EDUCATE OURSELVES ABOUT THE CHALLENGES FACED BY BLACK COMMUNITIES, AND TO MOBILIZE OUR COMMUNITY TO WORK FOR RACIAL JUSTICE IN ALAMEDA AND BEYOND.

We welcome seasoned activists, people who are brand new to social justice work, and everyone in between.

The group currently has several areas of work:

Alameda Police Department

We are interested in collaborating with law enforcement to ensure justice and equality. We aim to organize quarterly coffee meetings between the Alameda Police Department and the local community.

Alameda Schools

We would like to create a program to help provide school lunch in the local schools for students who participate in the federal reduced-price lunch program, or whose families have not yet qualified for the federal free lunch program.

Supporting Local Businesses

We will patronize local Black-owned businesses and encourage other Alameda businesses to support the Movement for Black Lives.

Ending White Silence

Wear Out the Silence! Every Friday, wear your Alameda 4 Black Lives, Black Lives Matter, or other shirt promoting racial justice. You can purchase your A4BL t-shirt here, printed by a Black-owned local business, with all proceeds donated to Black Lives Matter.

Raising Awareness In Town

In the coming months, we will create signage supporting the Movement for Black Lives that Alamedans can purchase for $10. We recently created "End White Silence" bumper stickers. Please click the Get Involved button at top right to learn how to get one.

Fundraising for BLM National

We will conduct activities - like our February Houseparty and A4BL T-Shirt Sales - with proceeds donated directly to Black Lives Matter National.

Racial Justice Reading Group

We lead a monthly reading group to discuss books related to racial justice. Learn more here.

Demonstrations and Protests

We make our collective support for the Movement for Black Lives visible through demonstrations and protests. Those new to demonstrating are very welcome. View upcoming events here.

ABL is organized by a small group of coordinators who meet monthly.

The group has a panel of coordinators who choose events and actions based on community input and need. The coordinator positions are rotating, and opportunities to join the coordinator committee will be announced via our Facebook group.

We welcome input from the community on new and continuing actions.  Feedback can be offered to any of the coordinators, or it can be posted in the Facebook group. Coordinators are committed to act responsively on community feedback.

Please contact us using the Get Involved button at top right. Reach out to the coordinators there, and let us know how you would like to get involved.
